I'm Not Retired Yet, I Still Do Live Performances - Dr. Victor Olaiya

Veteran highlife singer, Dr Victor Olaiya, has denied reports that he has quit music. In a statement, the singer said that widespread reports that he has quit live performances were untrue.
It was reported that he stopped doing live performances due to his failing health, especially after he missed the usual ‘nightlife faithful gathering’ held every Saturday at the Stadium Hotel, Iyun Street, Surulere Lagos.
But the 86 years old veteran has insisted that he was not retiring just yet as he was still available to do shows all over the country.
I want to state categorically that I still perform live on stage with my band, the International All Stars Orchestra, every Saturday at the Papingo Night Club of Stadium Hotel, Surulere, Lagos, while I also honour social engagements across the country.
“I therefore wish to use this medium to thank all my fans and other lovers of highlife music across the globe, who have expressed concern through several telephone calls and personal visits since when the story broke, while I assure them of many more years of the best of highlife music,” he stated.

Olaiya’s music is a bridge between Ghanaian highlife and what would become Afrobeat. His musical style was influenced by James Brown, with horn parts harmonised in Brown’s style, as opposed to the mostly unison lines of Afrobeat
In July 2013, Victor Olaiya released a music video remix of Baby Jowo (Baby Mi Da) with 2face Idibia.
