Nigerians were agog over the weekend when media reports went rife that President Muhammadu Buhari has died in a London Hospital where he was receiving medical treatment.
According to false reports, the 74-year-old President gave up the ghost after battling with an “unknown disease”.
After the death rumour went viral, the President’s media aide, Garba Shehu swung into action, as he released a statement to water down the skyrocketing rumour. He said the President was ‘alive and well’.
Garba went further to share Buhari’s picture, where he was lounging and watching Channels TV in UK.
This came following Buhari’s announcement of his 14 days’ vacation which was aimed at getting medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
Below are some of the things that will define Nigeria if Buhari had died.
Impotent Anti-corruption fight:
If President Muhammadu Buhari had eventually died, the Federal Government’s fight against corruption will drastically become fruitless. The country will return to the run-of-the-mill days where influential personalities cannot be prosecuted for money laundering, mismanagement of public funds, among others.
War:
The Indeginous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) would be glad if President Muhammadu Buhari dies, as his death would open way for the actualization of their agitation. However, this would definitely be done through the use of force which would lead to killing of innocent countrymen and women.
MASSOB agitates for a Republic of Biafra comprising the South-East and South-South regions of Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s antecedents have proved beyond reasonable doubts that the abduction of Chibok schoolgirls by Boko Haram is of greater priority to the President than any other national issue.
The successes recorded in the fight against insurgency by this regime have been impressive, a prove that Buhari-led Government is passionate about the release of these Schoolgirls. On a contrary, the remaining Chibok girls may never return if the President had died.
