Shocking: Officials Recover 18 Babies In Toilets, Dustbins
Eighteen babies abandoned by their mothers in toilets and dustbins have been recovered in Funtua town, Katsina State.
This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Director of Education and Social Services in Funtua Local Government Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Nasir while speaking with News Agency.
According to the official, the babies were recovered in the last four months, “Some of the babies were also thrown into toilets, while some were left in markets, public places and uncompleted buildings in the towns,” he added.
The Director who described the development as pathetic said, “Just yesterday, (January 24), a newly born baby girl was found in a soak away; people rehabilitated her before they handed the baby to government officials.”
He lamented that the council was ”sinking funds into taking care of the abandoned babies as well as in the evacuation and repatriation of lunatics.”
He, however, commended the District Head of Funtua, Alhaji Sambo Idris, and other traditional leaders for their contributions in the recovery and survival of the abandoned babies.
