Mourinho’s return to Chelsea was a perfect reunion initially, winning the Premier League title before crashing back to earth and got sacked in later parts of 2015. His current reign with Manchester United has been characterised with more stable performances and will be hoping to continue in emphatic fashion.
However, the Special one could also be referred as the ‘controversial one’ due to his many incidents in his illustrious career.
Here are five controversial moments in his career so far…
1. Eva Carneiro Saga

The former Chelsea boss was furious with the then team doctor, Eva Carneiro for lack of tactical awareness after the medic rushed to the pitch to treat Eden Hazard who appeared to be injured in the dying moments of their game against Swansea City which led to her eventual dismissal. Mourinho came under intense criticism for his treatment of Eva Carneiro and Chelsea had to issue an unreserved apology with regards to the case.
2. Poking Tito Vilanova’s Eye

During his time as Real Madrid boss, Mourinho poked his finger in the eye of Barca assistant coach, Tito Vilanova during a touchline fracas in a Copa del Rey clash. The Portuguese boss was fined and also received a two-match ban for his role in the brawl.
3. Touchline Row With Arsene Wenger
Mourinho has never had a good relationship with the Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and the height of frosty relationship was their public spat on the touchline during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over the Gunners at the Stamford Bridge in 2104. The pair were seen pushing each other has they argued on the touchline during the match before match officials separated them.
4. Accused Barca Of Sneaky Tactics

In 2005, Mourinho accused Barcelona boss Frank Rikjaard of going into the referees room to influence the central referee Anders Frisk’s decision which led to the ref’s retirement after allegedly receiving several death threats. Mourinho was then hit with a £8,900 fine and a two-match ban.
5. Accused Of Pushing A Child

As he neared the end of his reign at the Stamford Bridge in 2015, Mourinho’s woes was compounded with reports that the Portuguese boss pushed a 14-year-old fan who tried to get a selfie with him at Knightbridgde, London.
